Below is Connective’s list of the top 10 web designs in Denver. This list is based on each website’s aesthetics, functionality relative to their industry, and overall cohesiveness. All websites are listed in no particular order.
This website thrives on having smooth animations. For almost all of the information on the home page, there is an accompanying animation that plays when you reach them in navigation. This may sound annoying, but because each of them is so short and smooth, it practically blends into the natural flow of reading on the site. This makes browsing the home page engaging, encouraging a viewer to explore all the way down to the bottom.
Acquilano’s website has multiple components that make it impressive, but to choose one, it would be the fixed video of their workspace on the home page. This video and the text on top remain stationary even while scrolling past it, and it simply gets covered up by the rest of the website’s content after enough scrolling. Combining this with the smooth scrolling feature of this website makes a viewer feel as if they’re flipping a page in a journal, similar to those seen in the video.
This website is one of our favorites. This mainly stems from the philosophy surrounding its iconography. All non-human imagery on the website is made with monocolored, imperfect symbols that seem purposefully made to resemble a child’s imprecise cutting skills on construction paper. This is completely fitting for a website made for a preschool. In an industry often defined by precision and perfection, this design choice is subversive, appropriate, and beautiful all at once.
The most important aspect of this website’s memorability is the fact that it presents its information in a variety of ways. The introduction overlays its text over an image of the attorney. Just below that, there’s a white box with a shadow on a gray background. Below that, the background changes color twice, and that’s only the first four snippets of information. The sheer number of changes in the manner of presentation while maintaining a good look is both effective and impressive.
Although this website’s entire design is incredible, the most striking part of this website for us was a surprisingly small part of it: the image scrolling buttons. This website has an incredibly unique set of scrollers where the button to scroll forward is overlaid on top of the gallery. This makes the gallery feel almost physical, because the actions to scroll forward and back match the placement of your hands in a physical photo album. Definitely check this one out yourself!
The phrase “space never felt this good” has a double meaning for this website. Although it serves as a catchphrase for the company, it also doubles as this website’s design philosophy. Empty space is used effectively throughout this website and can be clearly seen just above the curve. Where the office photograph has empty wall space, the website follows suit. There’s a lot of room to breathe while observing this site, which matches the purpose of a therapy company.
Some websites can thrive with backgrounds entirely based on solid color, but oftentimes it’s better to add variety to these backgrounds. Idaciti’s website effectively applies this concept. Across the home page, one can see these grid-like formations made out of dots in random places throughout the background. This shape is reminiscent of a computer’s motherboard, and knowing that this company is dedicated to data analytics, this callback to technology is fitting.
Sometimes, slight deviations from the norm can go a long way towards making a website memorable. In this website’s case, that deviation actually provides a function. This website has a black sidebar that provides most of the functionality related to making purchases on the site. Although this isn’t necessarily innovative, few websites nowadays have this same utilization of the sidebar. Additionally, scrolling down makes the header black as well, creating a nice effect.
This website is rather simple while still making a great impression. Part of this effect comes from the nice curved divider to start the transition from the video to text-based information. A great deal of this effect, however, comes from the color scheme. For a company titled “Hidden Woods Film Co.”, having dark greens as the prominent colors throughout the site makes one feel as if they are truly in the woods described in their company’s name.
Some of the principal choices for any website to make during its design phase are its primary font and color scheme, as those will be present throughout the site no matter what design decisions are made. The font choice here is blocky, bulky, and bold, which is fitting for a food tech startup so largely shaking up the industry. Additionally, the complementary colors of blue and orange (or moreso, navy and orange here) create a large amount of visual interest.
